Why We RunAbout
Running

To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.

Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth... these are one and the same fight. We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health, food security and women's empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be solutions for all.

Our greatest happiness does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed us, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation, and freedom in all just pursuits.

Being in control of your life and having realistic expectations about your day-to-day challenges are the keys to stress management, which is perhaps the most important ingredient to living a happy, healthy and rewarding life.

Hello, I'm slow but I'm running consistently.

Back in 2012 I decided to start running as my belly bloated beyond its critical beauty point due to irregular hour of meal time. Working graveyard shift at USPS, it was hard to maintain good eating habit at that time as I constantly tried to catch some sleep whenever I could.
And my kids started having fun poking my belly to see how flexible it was. On the first day of ambitious running, I couldn't run even a half mile without stopping many times, panting like a dog in a Chinese restaurant on a hot summer day.
It got easier as I continued to challenge myself. After many years of strenuous sprint early in the morning I have accumulated more than 10,000 miles of running as of December 24, 2018, and currently I have more than 15,000 proud miles under my belt as of July 2022 through 10 years of running.

Usain St Leo Bolt OJ CD (born August 21, 1986) is a Jamaican retired sprinter. He also is a world record holder in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 × 100 metres relay. His reign as Olympic Games champion in all of these events spans three Olympics. Owing to his achievements and dominance in sprint competition, he is widely considered to be the greatest sprinter of all time. A nine-time Olympic gold medalist, Bolt won the 100 m, 200 m and 4 × 100 m relay at three consecutive Olympic Games, although he lost the 2008 relay gold medal about nine years after due to a teammate's doping disqualification. He gained worldwide fame for his double sprint victory in world record times at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which made him the first person to hold both records since fully automatic time became mandatory. Bolt is the only sprinter to win Olympic 100 m and 200 m titles at three consecutive Olympics (2008, 2012 and 2016).

The Story of Hope: Team Hoyt - Dick and Rick Hoyt

The Greatest Story of Boston Marathon: 30 Years of Running in Boston

Self-Sacrifice and Bond

For 30 years, Dick and Rick Hoyt have brought spectators along the 26.2-mile route of the Boston Marathon to tears. Over the past three decades, the image of 80-year-old Dick, pushing his son, Rick, 58, who is a quadriplegic and has cerebral palsy, has become synonymous with Patriots’ Day.

The visual of Dick Hoyt pushing Rick defines self-sacrifice, heroism, and the bond between a father and son. The pair, who have spawned a charity, ‘Team Hoyt,’ which strives to inspire physically disabled people to become active community members, annually elicits memorable Marathon moments and loud cheers. Team Hoyt embodies love, determination, and a selflessness that Dick and Rick display in every Marathon they enter.

The Beginning - In the spring of 1977, after completing 5-mile benefit run for a lacrosse player, Rick told his father, "Dad, when I'm running, it feels like I'm not disabled."

Pushing His Son for 1,130 Runs

This realization was just the beginning of what would become over 1,000 races completed, including marathons, duathlons and triathlons. Also adding to their list of achievements, Dick and Rick biked and ran across the U.S. in 1992, completing a full 3,735 miles in 45 days.

A bronze statue in honor of the Hoyts was dedicated on April 8, 2013, near the start of the Boston Marathon in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
